Lighting EIC’s headquarters building
Celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Associació i Col·legi d’Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya
Architectural lighting of the iconic façade of the Enginyers Industrials de Catalunya building created in collaboration with Mapping World-Lab. On 2019 Christmas, Via Laietana shone with a sober, elegant, and spectacular display. For the first time, the engineers’ headquarters incorporated light and color into the balconies, marking the culmination of the 160th anniversary celebration of the Association’s founding.
To achieve this, fifty low-energy LED spotlights were installed, conceptualizing the various purposes of the entity through chromatic scenes that interact with the space, creating an atmosphere of connection with society and individuals. The three institutions housed in this building –”Ingenieros Industriales de Cataluña”, “La Mutua de los Ingenieros” and “Grupo Caixa Ingenieros”– are represented through their corporate colors, which change in a programmed sequence starting at six in the evening.
“The challenge was to bring engineering closer to the public,” explains engineer Òscar Elgarrista, president of the Leisure Engineering Working Group. For this reason, they chose the building known as the “Barcelona’s Flatiron Building”, an iconic tower. “It’s the best lighting on Via Laietana,” says Elgarrista, “designed to make people stop, be amazed, and scan the QR code to learn about the significance of engineering.” The installation not only features LED lights but also includes two twelve-meter-high and 1.5-meter-wide banners with a message: “Committed to people”.
